The winter season is nearly upon us and St Wolfgang iis ideal for skiers of all ages and abilities. It is also the perfect base for the non-skiers in the party.

For the skiers take a trip to the Postalm ski area which is a snow sure area. It is 20 minutes by car and suited to family, beginners and intermediate skiers. Skiing for the more adventurous is available.

Howling Wolf is the perfect base for your stay in Austria. Situated on the outskirts of St Wolfgang at the foot of the Schafberg mountain in the small hamlet of Ried. You are only a 2 minute walk from the lake and a 10 minute walk into the centre of St Wolfgang.

The property has balconies on two levels with access from three of the four bedrooms which afford views of the lake and Austrian Alps.

The Chalet sleeps 10 but up to 13 can be accommodated. There is a large kitchen/diner and a spacious lounge complete with a large flat screen television, satellite TV and a state of the art games console.

Kitchen/Diner

The chalet has a full size kitchen area with oven and 4 ring cooker. There is a fridge with a small freezer. There is plenty of storage space and all the pans, utensils, plates, glasses that you should need for your stay are provided.

The dining area will comfortably seat 5.

There is access to the balcony from the kitchen

The large capacity washing machine and separate drier is located in the ground floor of the property.

Four bedrooms

The property has four bedrooms, one on the first floor and three on the second floor.

Each bedroom has a large king size bed and plenty of wardrobe space (and plenty of coat hangers!). The double aspect room, picture on left, also has a day bed which converts into a comfortable, full size, double bed, allowing comfortable accommodation for 10. There are also sofa beds in the lounge area which would provides sleeping for a further 3 person.

Three of the four bedrooms have direct access to the balconies and one bedroom has a sink unit fitted.

Living Room

The large spacious living room comfortably seats 10. There are great views from the double aspect room and access to the balcony. The latest state of the are 32” Sony flat screen high definition TV, satellite TV, Xbox Elite 360 are provided for your entertainment. The Xbox is also able to play DVD’s and CD’s. You can also plug in your MP3 player. The picture shows the room in an unfinished state.

Great views from the chalet

Howling Wolf Chalet has some fantastic views from the balcony. The deer is a visitor in the sloping back garden that leads into a small wood.

The next picture is taken from the balcony at the front of the house.

The final picture is a view from the side facing balcony and you can see the the ferry passing by on the Wolfgangsee.

The Chalet - The main living areas of the house is situated on the first and second floors which you will see both having front facing balconies and the first floor also having a full length balcony facing towards the lake.

The is a single garage which guests are welcome to use. There is plenty of off road parking on the driveway. Also located in the garage/ground floor area are the new large capacity washing machine and separate drier.

The house has undergone much refurbishment, most of the rooms having been repainted and new fixtures and fittings added. We are always looking to improve the accommodation and facilities to enhance your stay.

The chalet is situated in the small hamlet of Ried on the outskirts of St Wolfgang Austria. It is easily reached by car and will take you about 45 minutes from Salzburg airport.

The chalet house sits in an elevated south facing position giving views of the lake and the AustrianAlps beyond.
It is a brisk 10 minute walk into the centre of St Wolfgang and you are only 2 minutes from the lake and the public bathing area.

You are also located at the foot of the Schafsberg and if you turn left out of the chalet and walk 150 metres you enter the trails that take you into the forest and up the mountain.

Alternatively, the station for the cog train is only a 5 minute walk and by the station you can also board the ferry and cruise around the Wolfgangsee.

GETTING HERE

It couldnt be easier to get to St Wolfgang or more precisely the hamlet of Ried. The quickest way from the UK is to fly to Salzburg Airport and then to hire a car. The flight will take less than 2 hours and then you have a straightforward drive of 45-50 minutes. Salzburg is generally a very efficient airport and you will be on the road quickly after your arrival.

Ryan Air have regular flights throughout the year and in the winter season flights are available from other regional airports.

Easy Jet are also starting flights from Manchester in November to Munich. It is just over a 2 and a half hour drive from Munich Airport but a pretty easy drive.

Looking back towards St Wolfgang from the ferry as it heads to Strobl. The leaves in the forest are starting to turn as winter approaches. On the high peak behind you can just make out the hotel atop the Schafberg.

Great views from the famous cog train as it travels up the Schafberg mountain. The ride takes about 40 minutes but if you are feeling energetic the paths up the mountain start just outside the Howling Wolf Chalet - turn left outside the front door and head upwards.

The train arrives but you are not at the summit, you have a few 100 metres to walk yourself.

On top of the world - the pictures do not do it justice but the views of the Austrian Alps are just amazing as their peaks peak out above the clouds.

If you walked to the top of the mountain you will be please to get a beer in the bar but make sure you have a head for heights!

On the way down from the summit of the mountain the sun starts to set on the Alps.

On the Wolfgangsee heading out of St Wolfgang. The ferry stops off at Strobl and St Gilgen.

The beautiful St Wolfgang is a wonderful place to say. Visit the famous White Horse Inn Hotel and the Church. There are many little shops, restaurants to visit. And if you feel naught, visit one of the coffee shops and try one of the delicious cakes.

Take a ferry and enjoy a coffee or something stronger as you relax on the top deck and soak up the sun and views!

Great views across the Wolfgangsee towards the Postalalm ski area and the Austrian Alps. The water is so pure you can drink it straight out of the lake.

Looking out of the stairway window at the Chalet we saw that we had some visitors in the back garden.
